The D Day story in Portsmouth are hosting the D-Day Conference on Saturday 22 September from 9am-5:30pm. If you are interested in finding out more about the topic then you can book via this link below. It’s free for WW2 veterans to attend.
On the 18th of August one of our Trustees (Mark Waring) had the honour of presenting Finlay George with a certificate at the D Day Story for his fundraising efforts. You’ll remember from one of our previous posts that Finlay shaved his head to raise money for The Spirit of Normandy Trust. Fortunately there happened to be a veteran visiting the D Day Story museum in the form of Arthur Bailey (49th West Riding and later Parachute Reg.). Arthur kindly presented the certificate after a total of £1050 was raised. Arthur’s presence and thanks made the presentation all the more brilliant. Arthur landed on the 6th June on Gold Beach and took part in the batlle to liberate Caen. After this he transfered to the Parachute regiment and took part in the Amhen campaign.
A plea if any members of the former Normandy Veterans Association may be able to assist with the below.
The family of Frank Thomas Henry Fry are trying to find out which beach he landed on in Normandy. He was part of the British Tank Corps and once landed he made his way up to the Caen area followed by the Falaise area before he was wounded and was returned to the UK. If you knew Frank or know someone who was in the British Tank Core then please do get in touch. In the meantime we have put them in touch with The Tank Museum in Dorset.
