The Spirit of Normandy Trust has the great pleasure to announce that Henry, 3rd Viscount Montgomery of Alamein has kindly agreed to accept the role of Honorary President of the Spirit of Normandy Trust. Henry has travelled on a number of the Trust’s pilgrimage visits to Normandy and has provided excellent support to the veterans and families who were part of the groups. We warmly welcome him to this role with the Trust and look forward to working with him in the future.
Just watched a tribute to Montgomery ahead of the DD landings commemoration. Up until around 10 yrs ago I came across a certificate given to my grandfather who had supported him in North Africa during WW2. The stories where never really told about my grandads experiences but he was lucky to escape death jumping from his motorcycle before it was hit by an artillery strike. He was probably thankful for his strong faith in the church that he survived. As a family we are proud of grandads involvement as a dispatch rider in the famous 8th army. The certificate is on display in our home as a reminder of the sacrifices made by out forefathers in a very different world.
